The person of Jesus Christ is at the centre of our faith. We believe that Jesus Christ is the only true son of God and that he lived on earth so he could experience everything that is human. God came to us as the man Jesus Christ, lived his life amongst us and gave his life for us when he was crucified. Jesus died in love for us and all mankind and rose again from the dead so we could share in the gift of eternal life, which is the reward of our faith in Him.
Westwood Church as a congregation of the Church of Scotland confesses its faith through the words of the Apostles Creed which are set out below. This is a very ancient expression of the Christian Faith which goes back to the early days of the Christian Church and is almost as old as the writings of the New Testament.
I believe in God, the Father Almighty, the Maker of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord:
Who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried;
He descended into hell.
The third day He arose again from the dead;
He ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting.
Amen.
The Christian Faith expresses God as being Three-in-One - The Trinity. We have come to know God as our Heavenly Father and as Jesus Christ the Son and as The Holy Spirit who was given to us at the time of Pentecost. Father, Son and Holy Spirit are three expression of God each expression is fully and completely God and yet God remains One. The Trinity is undoubtedly the most complex of Christian beliefs, which leaves us with a deep sense of the Mystery and Otherness of God.
