Remembrance GardenRemembering is such an important part of who we are…
The patterns of worship within Westwood Church follow a recognisable Reformed tradition and will be familiar to anyone who has attended a Church of Scotland congregation previously. We can assure you that a warm welcome awaits you and that times of worship are relaxed. During our times of worship we seek to come close to God through Jesus Christ to engage with the Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments through prayer, preaching and praise and be strengthened to live a Christian life. We celebrate the Sacraments of the Lord’s Supper and Baptism within the life of our church.
Our Daily Bread is a simple devotional book which we make good use of particularly at the Wednesday morning Prayer Time. Our Daily Bread is also available online with new readings and insights for each day. Use this link to follow Our Daily Bread
From beginning of September to the end of June Westwood Church is fortunate to hold two acts of worship on a Sunday morning. This first takes place from 9.30am and last around 45 minutes. Typically it is the quieter and simpler of the two morning services. Some choose to attend the first service exactly for that reason - it affords them time and space for their own thoughts as well as time and space to reach out to God.
The second service on a Sunday morning begins at 11am and typically lasts for one hour although sometimes the Minister does overrun just a bit! The 11am service includes the Sunday School and as a consequence we have a broader range of ages, more young families and a busier Sanctuary at this service. Most of the special events take place at this service too e.g. Baptisms, Ordinations, Sunday School Prize Giving and guest speakers etc.
Which ever service you choose to attend you will be made most welcome. Teas and Coffees are available to everyone between the morning services. Its an ideal place to catch up with folk and make new friends.
Each Wednesday morning the Church is open for those who want to gather for prayer. From 9.30am a short time of guided prayer is led by the Minister followed by a time for quietness, reflection and our own prayers. The stillness of the Sanctuary makes it easier to share your thoughts and concerns with God and to feel His Peace entering into your heart. The Prayer Time takes place every week with the exception of a short break near Christmas and again near Easter.
